College Branches

Physiology Branch

Physiology Branch:

This Branch was founded a year after the founding of the college and teaches physiology, which is considered one of the basic scientific subjects for second-year students.

Branch goals:

This Branch aims to teach the students the following:

1- How different cells and organs of the body work to sustain life.

2- How different body systems work to help them in their career.

3- Physiology represents a link between basic science and clinical science.

4- The effectiveness and ability of the body to maintain its effective functioning. In addition, physiology indicates the imbalance in organ functions during the time of the diseases.

Community medicine Branch

Community medicine Branch:

This Branch concerned with the individual and community health and it is considered as a clinical science.

The Branch goals:

This Branch aims to teach the students, relevant professionals and community the following:

A- Assessing community health and the concept of health by knowing:

1- Health criteria

2- The characteristics of the disease's cause, the host, and environmental factors that cause the disease.

3- Criteria used to measure the level of health.

B- Environment and health

1- Sources, causes and risks of the environment to health and how to control environmental pollution.

2- The concept of water safety.

Pharmacology Branch

Pharmacology Branch:

The Branch teach pharmacology for the third-year students.

The Branch goals:

By the end of studying this course, the student will be able to:

1- Know the chemical basis of medicines and its effect on treating the changes that occur during the diseases.

2- Understand the mechanism of action of the medicine, the response and the effect of the medicine and the side effect of the used medicine.

3- Comprehend the drug interactions that occur when more than one drug is used at the same time, with the possibility of side interactions between the drugs and ingested foods.

4- Obtain any progress in the field of pharmacology from global scientific committees and follow up on the decisions and instructions of the World Health Organization, international pharmaceutical organizations and others for the purpose of delivering and providing new and advanced studies.

This Branch also aims to:

1- Deliver any update in the field of pharmacology to students, resident doctors, and postgraduate students. This includes all scientific and therapeutic aspects and complications that may occur when using any new and developed medicines.

2- Coordinating everything new in the field of drug discovery, manufacturing, and medical supplies and linking them to the clinical aspect when using a new drug for a specific disease. The effect of the medication must be monitored in all aspects, and special data must be recorded about the patient’s response and the occurrence of any complications or side reactions, in order to avoid or develop these used medications by research and studies.

Pathology Branch

Pathology Branch:

It is one of the new Branch. It was opened in late 2006 and teaches pathology and forensic medicine to third and fourth year students.

The Branch goals:

At the end of the course study, the student will be able to:

1- Understand and comprehend the pathological changes and how this related to the clinical outcome.

2- Understand and comprehend all form of diseases and link them to histological changes.

3- Able to explain the histological changes and how this could help to diagnose the diseases.

4- Able to search and gain relevant information for about the specific changes to a particular disease.

Biochemistry Branch

Biochemistry Branch:

This Branch teaches basic chemistry to first-year students and biochemistry to second-year students.

The Branch goals:

1- Teaching students with comprehensive, intensive and integrated knowledge of the basics of biochemistry, especially clinical chemistry.

2- Guiding and directing students on methods to quote, coordinate, and apply theoretical and practical biochemistry terms in the medical field.

3- Assuring the student’s knowledge of the basic principles necessary to consider and understand the rules and foundations of biological and molecular chemistry in understanding the cause of various diseases and dysfunctions and their effects.

4- Preparing students with experience and skill in diagnosing, analyzing, and clarifying problems of clinical relevance.

5- Contributing to establish a solid base of knowledge for the student to comprehend and understand the practice of medicine and future its developments from a diagnostic and therapeutic perspective.

Microbiology Branch

Microbiology Branch:

This Branch teaches microbiology, parasitology and medical biology courses for first and third year.

The Branch goals:

1- Training students to conduct many examinations in the fields taught by the branch.

2- Linking the basic medical sciences in the Branch with the clinical sciences and directing the student to link the clinical and basic specializations.

3- Training students to conduct immunological experiments and use them as diagnostic tools.

4- Training students to hold seminars and symposium and strengthen their scientific and presentation skills.

5- Devoting the principle of community service through holding seminars and training courses for members of the college and other Branch in the epidemiological and laboratory fields.
